INTRODUCTION TO LITHOGRAPHY FOR

EARLY-CAREER CURATORS AND SCHOLARS

Tamarind Institute invites applications from early-career curators and print scholars to participate in an immersive workshop in lithography and an exploration of the Tamarind archives. The five-day workshop will be held at Tamarind Institute, The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, May 19-23, 2025, led by Education Director Brandon Gunn. One month following the workshop, participants will participate in a virtual roundtable discussion about their workshop experience and areas for further research in the Tamarind Archive.

The Getty Paper Project grant covers all travel, lodging, most meals, local transportation, and workshop materials. Participants receive a $250 stipend.

The SNAG Educational Endowment exists to provide access to educational opportunities for students and professionals looking to broaden their education in the metalsmithing and jewelry field. For the 2024 funding cycle ending June 30, 2025, there is a total of $10,000 to be awarded to recipients. The Educational Endowment Scholarship Selection Committee will determine the number and amount of the awards, based on the strength of the applications.

The Educational Endowment Scholarship awards are designated by Student and Professional categories.

All awards are to be used toward a course of study in North America related to the jewelry and metals field and are intended to help expand the applicant's practice. Award funds are paid directly to the recipient to cover costs of educational expenses. Recipients will be required to give an end of year report documenting the use of scholarship funds and how it benefited their metalsmithing and jewelry education. Each award also includes a one-year SNAG membership.

The Appalachian Resource Conservation & Development Council (ARCD) announces a call for entries for “Ag in Art,” a regional juried exhibition at Fischman Gallery in Johnson City, Tennessee. Artists are encouraged to submit work related to farming, gardening, farmers markets, food access, generational farming, land conservation, food systems, growing and harvesting food and goods, food justice, and other related topics. The Juror will be Heather F. Wetzel, Galleries and Collections Manager for Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Submission deadline: March 15, 2024. Exhibition dates: Friday, May 3 through Friday, May 31, 2024.

Program Info & Requirements

Media accepted: Wood, Glass, Metal, Fiber, and Clay

Applicants must be able to fulfill a program requirement of working in their studios for two days per week during HCCC public hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. All resident artists are required to open their studios to public interaction on Saturdays and one other day of the week (TBD), as well as during exhibition openings and specific educational programs on the evenings and weekends. Applicants should consider the public facing nature of the residencies and the fact that a major goal of the program is to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore contemporary craft through engaging with working artists.

Benefits of the residency include 24/7 access to studio space, cultural and professional development opportunities, a monthly stipend that includes a small housing/materials allowance, and the opportunity to give an artist talk.

Juried selection is based on quality of creative work, ability to interact with the public, career direction, and program diversity. Accepted artists will be notified via e-mail in late May.

BIPOC Support Grant Provided by HCCC & Crafting the Future

HCCC and Crafting the Future (CTF) introduce a new funding opportunity to support Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) craft artists. Crafting the Future works to diversify the fields of art, craft, and design by connecting BIPOC artists with opportunities that will help them thrive. By banding together and pooling the resources of like-minded artists and art appreciators, CTF is making the changes they want to see in communities around the country.

Residents who identify as BIPOC can receive unrestricted funding in addition to their monthly honorarium. The additional support ranges from $500 to $1,000 and can be awarded as a one-time gift or on a scheduled monthly basis to support their practice. Inclusion Statement

The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft’s mission is to educate on the process, product, and history of craft, here in the city of Houston and across the country. In our exhibitions, educational programs, and artist residencies, we strive to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that provides access to the resources artists need to realize their creative and community endeavors.

HCCC’s Artist Residency Program is generously supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the John & Robyn Horn Foundation, the Susan Vaughan Foundation, The Gordon A. Cain Foundation, and the Windgate Foundation.

Residents will have wide-ranging access to our architectural campus composed of three Wright-designed homes set within a historic landscape, as well as an award-winning contemporary glass structure conceived by architect Toshiko Mori as an exhibition and visitor space.

Residents will receive a stipend of $5,000. 50% of the stipend will be provided upon arrival to Buffalo; the other 50% will be offered upon completion of the project. Travel expenses of up to $1,000 will also be provided to residents who are from outside the Buffalo-Niagara region.

Individuals selected to participate will room on campus at the Gardener’s Cottage as part of their residency.

Residents will have heightened access to Martin House collections and collections information. Other locally-accessible research resources are available through:

Buffalo + Erie County Public Library Special Collections

Buffalo History Museum Research + Artifact Collections

The Creative Residency Program is an opportunity for the Martin House to respond to and engage with our community. We anticipate that it will lead to more robust interpretations of Frank Lloyd Wright, the Martin House, and the people who once lived and worked here so as to expand the dialogue as to what great architecture is and why it matters.

National Residencies

Contemporary Craft offers two types of National Residencies (for artists living outside of a 100 mile radius of Pittsburgh, PA). A Short Term Residency for a period of one month, and a Long Term Residency for a period of six months. All National Artists-in-Residence will receive free furnished housing in a four bedroom home just a quick three-minute drive from Contemporary Craft, a private work space at Contemporary Craft, and access to our fully equipped Studio spaces.

Short Term Residency

Each Short Term Residency will last for a period of one month during May 2023, August 2023, November 2023, and February 2024 (exact start date flexible within the month).

Eligibility and Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and must be non-Pittsburgh residents.

Residents will receive free furnished housing in a 4 bedroom home just a quick 3-minute drive from Contemporary Craft. Residents will have a private bedroom, shared bathroom, full kitchen, living space, laundry, and parking.

Residents will receive a $1,200 stipend, half of which will be given upon arrival and half upon completion of the term.

Residents are responsible for their own travel to and from Pittsburgh.

Residents will receive access to Contemporary Craft’s facility from 9am-9pm daily. Residents will have a private work space as well as access to the community Studio spaces.

Short Term Residents will be required to select at least one option from the following menu to engage with the Contemporary Craft community during their residency:

Teach a half-day or full-day workshop (residents will receive additional compensation for teaching above their residency stipend)

Give an Artist Talk about their work and residency

Sell work through the store via an artist pop-up feature

Engage with youth through CC’s community engagement programs

Give an artist demo at a CC event

Residents will be required to donate one piece of work to CC’s annual gala auction in the spring.

Long Term Residency

The Long Term Residency will last for a period of six months from June 2023-November 2023 or January 2024-June 2024.

Terms and Conditions:

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and must be non-Pittsburgh residents*.

Residents will receive free furnished housing in a 4 bedroom home just a quick 3-minute drive from Contemporary Craft. Residents will have a private bedroom, shared bathroom, full kitchen, living space, laundry, and parking.

Residents will receive a $1,200 monthly stipend, which will be paid at the end of each month of the residency.

Residents are responsible for their own travel to and from Pittsburgh.

Residents will receive access to Contemporary Craft’s facility from 9am-9pm daily. Residents will have a private work space as well as access to the community Studio spaces.
